An Introduction to Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire centres around the 'Granite City' of Aberdeen but there are also many other places to visit, especially the historic glen towns of Ballater, Banff, Macduff, Braemar and Banchory with the coastal towns of Fraserburgh and Stonehaven. A coastal county in the north-east of Scotland, Aberdeenshire is bounded by the Highlands to the west and to the south by Angus and Perth and Kinross. The county has a heritage dating back to the Stone and Bronze Ages with many ruins and castles spread over the area.

Aberdeenshire is full of attractions, from the many distilleries in the area like the Strathisla Distillery and the Glenlivit Distillery, to His Majesty's theatre in Aberdeen and Castle Fraser. Museums in the region include the Lighthouse museum.

Aberdeenshire has an international airport owned by BAA which is Aberdeen airport and 15 minutes away from central Aberdeen.

By Train

The train services in the area are mainly run by Scotrail, Eastcoast, which runs from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen which takes over 8 hours, and National Rail.

By Coach and Bus

National Express can take you from London to Aberdeenshire in over 8 hours. First run local services in Aberdeenshire, as do Stagecoach.

By Car

It takes nearly 9 hours by car to travel to Aberdeenshire, using the A1, or using the M6, A74 and M74. The main roads in the region are A96, A952, A90,A95 and AN56.
